A postdoctoral researcher position is available in the in the Laboratory of Centrosomes, Cilia and Microtubules at Koç University. The central questions behind our work is understanding how centrosomes and cilia are assembled, maintained and dynamically altered during cell cycle, as well as elucidating what goes awry in diseases associated with abnormalities in centrosome/cilium complex. We take a multidisciplinary approach to address these questions, combining genomic, proteomic, biochemical and cell biological methods. For details please see https://mysite.ku.edu.tr/ekaralar/)
Applicants must hold a PhD degree in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related fields. To apply please send a cover letter summarizing your research interests, description of past research accomplishments, and your CV, along with contact information for at least 2 references to: ekaralar@ku.edu.tr
Nearly one in 5000 people inherit mtDNA mutations that can cause disease. Others are afflicted with mtDNA-associated disease after long-term treatment with anti-viral or anti-cancer agents. Moreover, throughout our lifespan, we accumulate damage to our mtDNA, raising the possibility that mtDNA damage is a cause of aging. One long term aim of our laboratory is to find genetic and pharmacological methods by which we can increase the fitness of human cells with impaired mitochondria.
